Yulia moved with her family to Dnipro from Kreminna, Luhansk Oblast, when active hostilities began in the city. They were forced to evacuate because a shell hit a neighbouring house in early March 2022, and it was no longer safe to stay in the city. On the recommendation of her godmother, Yulia found a shelter of the “Good on Amur” Charitable Foundation and settled there with her husband and three children: daughter Kateryna (14) and sons Ivan (9) and Oleksandr (6 months). Now, while staying in the shelter, Yulia is looking after the children, and her husband has found a job in Dnipro. They are trying to make a good life here, but they would still like to return to their home someday. They don’t know what happened to their house yet, but hope that when the war ends, they will have a place to return to. After living in a private house, it was unusual at first to live under one roof with other families, among many people, but then they got used to it. ‘We live like one big family. The war has united everyone, there are no strangers here,’ says Yulia.
